Joe Maddon has not been impressive as Cubs' manager. Even when the Cubs were playing well this season (seems like ages ago), the Cubs were winning in spite of Maddon instead of because of him.
Maddon came to Chicago with the reputation of being a bullpen wizard. But in the early going, Maddon's bullpen moves have been disasters nearly every time he goes out to the mound. Maddon pulls starters way too early because of his idiotic policy of batting the pitcher eighth.
This business of hitting the pitcher eighth has produced virtually no positive results and has gone a long way to snuff out several Cub rallies.
From where I sit, Joe Maddon is no better a manager than the unjustly fired Rick Renteria (Renteria was a real wizard with the bullpen in 2014.)
Maybe now we can expect Maddon to pull out one of his high school stunts and have the Cub players play in ballet dresses or sip white wine out of glass slippers. But on the field so far in 2015 Joe Maddon has been a classic case of style over substance!
