RHP Lon Warneke was known as the "Arkansas Hummingbird" and was one of the Cubs' best pitchers of the early 1930's. Warneke was 22-6, with a 2.37 ERA for the Cubs' 1932 NL Championship team (he was runner up in the MVP voting and his win total and ERA topped the NL.)
Warneke won 18 games in 1933, 22 in 1934 and 20 in 1935 (on another Cub NL Championship club.) He was dealt to St. Louis in 1937 for first baseman Ripper Collins and RHP Roy Parmalee. Warneke returned to the Cubs in 1942 but he spent his last three seasons with the team as a spot starter and reliever!
